History of Quilling

Quilling, also known as paper filigree, was developed back in the fifteenth century. The quilling of paper is rolled, pinched, shaped, and arranged by hand to form intricate floral patterns and filigrees. Each petal and leaf arranged resulting in a lacy memorable keepsake.

The quill of a feather was used as a tool to roll paper strips, thus the “Art of Paper Quilling.”

Quilling was used to embellish plaques, framed pictures, tea caddies, small tables, and even some large cabinets.

This form of “Art” faded during the last 1800’s. Quilling has since re-emerged as a contemporary form of art producing a wide variety of decorative crafts and fashionable gifts and keepsakes for Weddings, Anniversaries and Baby Announcements.
